Iris
The iris is the colored portion of the eye that opens the pupil (the central hole in the iris) in bright light and closes the pupil under low light levels.

What can go wrong?
The iris is an internal ocular component that is protected inside of the eye and rarely
undergoes any pathological changes that are serious or preventable. The iris can become
inflamed secondary to ocular trauma, creating a condition called an “iritis”.
The usual symptoms of iritis are photophobia (light sensitivity), eye pain, and a very
injected or red eye. Any of these symptoms should be reported to your eye doctor as
soon as possible so prompt treatment could prevent some serious side effects.
